You are guided by Aaron der Schaedel, the programmer, and Laughing Jack as you are gradually introduced to different characters as well as filled in on some aspects of the upcoming game.
Each visit with one of the six characters lasts only a few minutes, though some parts of this demo game are randomized, making each playthrough different to some degree.
Creepypasta tend to be spread in the same way: spread across the internet and shared, often with no explicit author, and getting warped and edited as they do.
It was one such site that the two girls involved in the Slender Man trial allegedly told detectives that they found the story on the Creepypasta Wiki, a popular site for collecting such stories.

This game is more comedy-centric, with each character having an out-of-character personality.
The second dread was actually a bit of my own fault. I had a feeling that they were all going to be very boring. Anyways, it wasn’t long before I was known as an outsider and a freak.
Do not proceed if anyone else is in the elevator with you. When the elevator reaches the fourth floor, do not get out.
Instead, remain in the elevator and press the button for the second floor.
